SUCCESS STORIESSummer 2008NONI TURNER - TOWARD THE WITHIN![]() Noni Turner is a woman of many talents. Her beginnings in massage therapy in
1985 led her to then qualify as a psychological astrologer in 1994, followed by
training in hypnosis in 2000. Since training in hypnotherapy, Noni has
undertaken further studies in the field and developed her own wellbeing business
around the three complementary fields of massage therapy, psychological
astrology and hypnotherapy. Noni’s business helps people find the answers to their problems – “I branched
out into hypnosis because it fascinates me. It’s a non-intrusive way of working
with your inner process by side-stepping the conscious mind.” Noni holds a
Diploma of Solution Oriented Hypnotherapy, an Advanced Diploma of Solution
Oriented Hypnotherapy and a Diploma of Esoteric Hypnotherapy. In developing her hypnotherapy services, she has become more focused about
the areas she likes to work in and how she can make the most difference to her
clients. She especially enjoys working with those who are trying to stop
smoking, learning to control their anxiety and those preparing for child birth,
“I [also] love to work with people who just want to explore their inner
process”. Noni’s process is based on Milton Erickson’s style of hypnosis which assumes
that the client has the solution to their problem within - it’s just not
conscious yet. In the same way that a part of us knows how to walk, how to grow
hair, how to breathe, so also do we know on some level what we need to do to
find our own solutions. Noni says “My work is very individual. No recipes.”
Solution Oriented hypnosis works individually with the client, rather than
imposing a set of pre-mixed external solutions which differs quite significantly
from much clinical hypnotherapy. Many of Noni’s clients seek her out through word of mouth and appreciate how
respectful she is of their space, many continue to return as clients because
they can see change or because they learn something about themself and they find
the experience delightful and fascinating. She finds that women in particular
appreciate her approach because she trusts their capacity to know what they need
even if they don’t know what it is yet, “because I don’t presume to know what
they need until we’ve discussed their issue and even then, my role is to elicit
and encourage change, not to impose it”. Working in this way helps clients find
their own answers which in turn leads to self respect, self reliance and self
knowledge. In 2008 Noni plans to release two children’s night-time relaxation stories she has just completed as well as an older kid’s relaxation cd. She plans to write more stories for younger children to help with sleep issues as well. There are birth preparation cds she will also be making available in addition to developing her website at www.noniturner.com Having recently moved, she will also focus on shifting a portion of her
practice to the Warrandyte, Hurstbridge and Eltham areas. We asked Noni two questions: What one piece of advice would you have for other women
in business or those thinking of starting a business? Believe in what you want to do and go and see Susan. How has being a WFN member helped you in business and/or personally? My involvement with WFN has been crucial to helping me make this transition in my business, both on a practical level and on an emotional level. WFN has helped me see that even though I’ve got the business brain of a pea, I can actually learn how to grow my pea into a canteloupe. Suddenly I have possibilities all over the place. I’m very grateful. |
